A washed Tanzania from the Mbeya highlands — cherry, golden delicious, and a clean lift of lime. This lot comes from Jeshi la Kujenga, a cooperative of small-holders working at elevation in south-western Tanzania's specialty corridor. The washed process gives the cup an acid-forward clarity that's typical of the region, without the heavier body of a natural.
Mbeya sits high in the Southern Highlands, close to the Zambian border. Volcanic soil and altitude give the beans a density that translates into a long, clean finish — and the pooled cherry across the cooperative's members produces a more consistent lot than a single-farm pick at this price.
We roast this light. Enough development to round the body without muting the fruit; short enough to keep the lime edge forward. Pulls well as espresso with a fine grind; shines as filter or pourover, where a slightly finer grind brings out the cup's juicy centre.
